Q: How much does it cost to participate in Family Strides programs?

A: All programs that are offered are free of charge, with the exception of the Parenting Class,   which is a nominal fee.

Q: Can I attend playgroups or events offered by Family Strides without being enrolled in any of the programs?

A: Family Strides prides itself in being flexible and meeting the needs of the families within our community, we encourage families to call and inquire.

Q: How can I participate in the Home Visitation Program?

A: To participate in the home visitation program you must be a first time expecting parent, or have a new born, live in  Litchfield County, and have completed an initial assessment with a staff member.

Q: Is there specific doctors, or a clinic that I must go to if I have HUSKY medical insurance?

A: No, each participant can pick their doctors, but they must make sure that the doctor accepts the HUSKY program and the plan you are enrolled in.

Q: Do I automatically qualify for WIC if I am enrolled in Healthy Start/ HUSKY medical coverage?

A: There is a separate application process, however if you have an effective Medicaid number it can be used for income and residency verification for the WIC program.

Q: Does Family Strides have volunteers, and how can I become one?

A: Yes, Family Strides frequently accepts volunteers and interns for a variety of positions, contact the executive director or parent educator to apply.

Q: What does the Father Involvement Program do?

 

A: It starts with one on one case management discussing issues that face all dads today and ways to achieve our personal goals.  Then leads into a thirteen week class covering things like: Anger management, stress, the roots of fathering, discipline, Co-parenting, children and parents’ basic needs, and many other topics that are important to men in our everyday lives.

 

Q: Why am I required to provide citizenship and identity in order obtain Husky A/Medicaid coverage?

A:  As July 1, 2006, there is a new federal law that requires U.S. citizens (adults and children) who want Medicaid/HUSKY A coverage to show original documents that prove U.S. citizenship and identity.  For additional information contact HUSKY Infoline at 1-877-284-8759.

Q: Do you provide any services in Spanish?

A: Yes, Family Strides has two Spanish speaking employees who can assist and translate for any program application or procedure.
